Founded on the Rock

“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.”
Luke 6:46-49

Building on the sand
Building on the sand …

You may have been wondering where I’ve been the last few months.  I’ve been wondering that too, but I pray that I have been busy building a solid foundation for my life and my household.  This month has been particularly full.  Our oldest daughter, Emily, graduated high school on May 10th, immediately followed by a five night cruise to Mexico.

Or anchored on the rock.

This morning during my time in the Word, I was reading Luke 6-8 and was particularly struck by this passage.  It is a parallel to the passage in Matthew 7 which I wrote about on October 18 of last year.    What struck me this morning were these words: DUG DEEP.

Luke 6:48 says that the man dug DEEP when he was building his house.  This was hard work.  This took digging.  This required effort.

Storms will come
Storms will come …

That really resonated with me.  How often am I taking the easy road?

All too often I find myself building my life on the ground that I can see before me, rather than taking the time and effort required to dig deep to build it on the solid rock of the Word.  All too often, I am calling out “Lord, Lord” and yet, not doing what my Lord has told me to do.

Please join me in digging deep, deep into the well of living waters, deep into the heart of our Lord, as we found our lives and our households on the solid rock.
