Four Things to Learn from Daniel’s Response to the King’s Order to not Pray. Daniel 5-6. 2026

Read the Bible in 2 Years: Daniel 5-6

When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem. He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously.

Daniel 6:10 ESV

1️⃣ This was already Daniel’s practice. He didn’t start praying because of this law — he continued praying despite the law.

2️⃣ When faced with a choice, we must obey God rather than man. (See Acts 5:27-33 for more on this)

3️⃣ Fear God, not men. Daniel could’ve just continued praying in secret, but he chose to trust God in the face of danger.

4️⃣ All too often, we run headfirst into work mode and then tack on a little prayer at the end. Prayer should be our first response, rather than an afterthought, to testing, temptations, and trials.
